On 28.6. – 1.7. The 8th EUGEO Congress on the Geography of Europe was held with the main theme – Sustainable geographical areas in the heart of Europe. This topic refers to the passion that geographers have for exploring the world. The congress was held in a hybrid form on the premises of the Faculty of Science of Charles University in compliance with all anti-epidemic measures. It was the first congress for us and for the participants after many months, which they could attend live, as was the case before the COVID – 19 pandemic.
113 geography experts and 244 participants watched a scientific program online during the four-day event, which included expert lectures divided into 4 plenary and 14 parallel sections. There was also a poster section throughout the congress.
The social part was not left out either. The first evening was the so-called Icebreaker. It was an informal meeting with the possibility of mutual acquaintance of all participants and deepening of networking in the premises of the Faculty of Science. On the penultimate evening, the participants enjoyed the congress dinner in the Nebozízek restaurant and could admire the beautiful view of historic Prague from Petřínské sady.
The enthusiasm of everyone for the personal meeting was great and thanks to the observance of safety regulations, no one had to worry about their health. And those who were connected remotely could actively communicate with their colleagues present in Prague in the comfort of their home or workplace. The congress was accompanied by a pleasant and friendly atmosphere throughout.
We thank our clients, all participants, speakers and the entire organizational team, led by project manager Marcela Rajtorová, for this year’s beautiful congress.
Special thanks go to the partner of the Czech Convention Bureau – CzechTourism for considerable financial support.
