Nearly 200 experts attended the hybrid ESVO Meeting 2022

On Thursday 29 October, the four-day ESVO Meeting 2022, organized by the European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ESVO), started in Berlin. Since its founding in 1985, the society has grown to become the largest European association dedicated to this field, with members from all European countries.

The place for this year’s meeting was Germany, specifically the capital city of Berlin, a city rich in history, culture, and politics. The event was held at the four-star Abba Berlin Hotel, which is conveniently located in a very popular part of Berlin, making it an excellent starting point for exploring the city and its most important sights.

The event attracted 107 participants physically and 85 joined virtually. The professional programme consisted of lectures, discussions, a poster session, and a final practical workshop. The conference also included an exhibition with eight exhibitors.

The trio of keynote speakers included Dr. Joao Alfredo Kleiner DVM, MSc, founder of veterinary ophthalmology in Brazil, Dr. DJ Haeussler, an award-winning veterinary ophthalmologist from Ohio, and Dr. Stefan Kindler, a popular local speaker.

The first day of the conference opened with a welcome ceremony followed by the scientific program. In the evening, the first networking session took place in the form of a welcome drink, during which old and new faces from the field met. The second and third days were packed with a scientific programme where every participant had the opportunity to share and gain new knowledge. The highlight of the social part of the ESVO Meeting 2022 programme was the gala dinner taking place on the second evening at the Inizio Berlin restaurant.

Participants could also look forward to the ESVO Awards Ceremony, which took place on the third day and was part of the closing ceremony. The last day was dedicated to the internship. It consisted of breakfast with mentors and a practical part, during which the participants were introduced to new methods and instruments.
We would like to thank the European Society for Veterinary Ophthalmology (ESVO), the partners and exhibitors, all participants and speakers, and the IDEAS by GUARANT project team.
