What does functioning science look like? At the CTLS 2025 (Core Technologies for Life Sciences Congress) congress in Brno, the people without whom modern research would not be possible came together — experts from core facilities, technology platforms, and scientific infrastructure. In an atmosphere of open exchange, discussions focused on laboratory operations, the implementation of new technologies, data management, and support for research teams. The three-day program demonstrated that high-quality infrastructure is not just a support service, but a key part of the scientific process itself. CTLS 2025 offered a valuable behind-the-scenes look at science — and gave a voice to those who keep it running every day.
Scientific Program
The three-day professional program of CTLS 2025 offered a well-structured combination of keynote lectures and two main plenary sessions each day. Leading speakers, including Kristina Djinovic Carugo from EMBL Grenoble, presented on the importance of core facilities, technological innovation, and laboratory infrastructure management. The plenary sessions addressed topics such as fostering innovation in cutting-edge infrastructures and industry engagement — including discussions on technologies like cryo-EM, synchrotron XRPD, and LVEM microscopy, and showcasing best practices from leading European and Canadian institutions. The program also featured interactive technology segments (“Techno Bytes”) and workshops by congress partners such as Beckman Coulter, Idea Elan, and Thermo Fisher, offering participants practical demonstrations of advanced methods in real-world use.
Social Program
The social program at CTLS 2025 was designed as an integral part of the conference, providing space for informal networking, knowledge sharing, and exploring the host city. The event kicked off with a Welcome Drink and a poster session. A social dinner took place on June 11 at the Augustinian Abbey, which included guided tours of the Mendel Museum.
Conclusion
CTLS 2025 in Brno confirmed that strong science is built on well-functioning infrastructure, experienced professionals, and a willingness to share experiences. The three-day program brought up-to-date topics in core facility operations, technological development, and research support across institutions. Thanks to its open atmosphere, professional quality, and natural connection of people from across the world, the conference became not only a platform for learning but also a catalyst for future collaboration. CTLS 2025 left a clear message: technological infrastructure is not just a service — it is the foundation upon which today’s science grows.
