The prestigious international congress of the Vascular Access Society (VAS) 2025 welcomed 461 professionals specializing in vascular access for dialysis patients to Padua, Italy, in early April. This key educational event offered a rich scientific program, hands-on workshops, and opportunities for international interdisciplinary collaboration.

Topics and Scientific Program

The congress focused on the most current topics in the field of vascular access, including:

  • Innovations in diagnostics and surgical techniques
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration between surgeons, nephrologists, and nurses
  • Use of ultrasound methods and new devices to ensure long-term access functionality
  • Complications of vascular access and their prevention

Lectures were accompanied by discussions on clinical studies, case reports, and the latest technological approaches. The program also included three lunchtime symposia.

Workshops: Hands-On Skill Training

The congress also featured practical workshops focused on:

  • Ultrasound-guided cannulation and care of AV accesses
  • Surgical techniques – central vein puncture, creation of AV anastomoses
  • Use of the VasQ device to improve vascular anastomoses

The workshops were led by experienced experts and offered participants a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on skills directly “from the source.”

Networking in Venice and Awards for Excellence

Friday evening was dedicated to informal networking – a social dinner on the island of San Servolo in Venice provided a unique and memorable setting.
The congress concluded with a ceremonial award presentation recognizing the best abstracts. The jury highlighted the scientific value and innovative approaches of the individual authors.

Reflections and Future Outlook

VAS 2025 once again confirmed its position as one of the most important international educational events in the field of vascular access. It provided participants not only with new knowledge but also with the opportunity to actively shape the future of vascular medicine.
We look forward to the next edition, which will bring new challenges, ideas, and inspiration.
