From 18 to 20 September 2024, the jubilee 10th Czech-Slovak Congress of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery took place in Bratislava, which was also held in conjunction with the 85th Congress of the Czech Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery ČLS JEP and the 70th Congress of the Slovak Society for Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. The event also included the 4th meeting of the Slovak Society for Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery, which was one of the specialized sections of the congress. The event was held at the Crowne Plaza Congress Hotel, located in the historical centre of Bratislava.
The expert programme of the congress was divided into four parallel sections, covering all key areas of ORL – from otology and rhinology to laryngology, ORL oncology, and thyroid surgery. The programme also included instructional sessions, panel discussions and e-posters. The Congress was enriched by six international speakers who are world leaders in their fields and brought an important international dimension to the 10th Czech-Slovak Congress. Their lectures significantly raised the professional level of this prestigious event. Part of the programme was held in English – namely two keynote lecture sessions, one round table entitled: HPV-induced OPH cancer: an ever-changing disease, and several other lectures in other round tables.
In addition to a rich scientific programme, the congress had a social dimension, offering opportunities for informal meetings in the beautiful surroundings of Bratislava. The biggest social event was the gala evening, which took place at the Bratislava Flag Ship Restaurant, one of the largest restaurants in Europe. Here the participants could enjoy traditional Bratislava cuisine and beer from the local brewery. The entertainment was provided by the legendary Slovak band Polemic, who set the atmosphere on fire with their ska and reggae hits.
The congress welcomed almost 500 participants, and the organizers were delighted by the large number of delegates from the Czech Republic, which accounted for almost half of the total number of participants. At the same time, 32 companies presented themselves at the exhibition.
Many thanks to the entire organizing team for the excellent preparation and successful course of the congress under the leadership of project manager Anna Pražáková. We would also like to thank all the participants, speakers and everyone who contributed in any way to the success of this congress.
We are looking forward to next year’s edition!
