ESVO 2023: European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology Conference in Rome

Another year has passed and the European Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ESVO) Conference is once again behind us. This major event brought the attention of experts, researchers, and professionals in veterinary ophthalmology from all over the world from 28 September to 1 October 2023.

The enthusiasm did not only stop at the expanded topics in the field, it was also complemented by the interest in the Italian capital. Rome is a destination rich in history, culture, and beauty. Participants had the opportunity to explore iconic sites of the city such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Vatican, and the enchanting Trevi Fountain.

This year, the ESVO took place in the never-silent city of Rome, at the Roma Eventi – Fontana di Trevi convention centre, named after the famous fountain located nearby. With spacious lecture halls and exhibition areas, Roma Eventi – Fontana di Trevi offered the ideal setting for delegates to participate in meaningful discussions and share the latest advances in veterinary ophthalmology. The chosen conference location ensured that all participants had access to the cultural treasures and culinary delights of the city.

ESVO 2023 presented an extensive scientific programme covering the latest research and discussions in veterinary ophthalmology. Renowned experts from around the world presented their findings and innovations promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants. The programme covered a wide range of topics including advances in diagnostics, surgical techniques, eye diseases, and eye care for our four-legged friends. Participants had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the latest developments in the field and their practical applications. In addition, hands-on workshops were held on Sunday, one on the surgical treatment of glaucoma and the other on ultrasonography.

In addition to the professional programme, the conference offered a rich social programme, which included a welcome drink on the first day. On the following day, a gala dinner awaited those interested in a magical restaurant on the ship – Baja Restaurant, which appealed especially to lovers of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. The dinner was a pleasant and tasty diversification of the event programme.
In terms of participation, a total of 133 participants visited ESVO 2023 physically and 78 joined online.

The ESVO 2023 conference would not have been possible without our organization team led by Petr Svoboda, Director of IDEAS. Their passion and careful planning ensured that the conference was a considerable success. We, therefore, thank them warmly for their organization and look forward to Barcelona for the next edition.
