More than 2,000 general practitioners and medical students flew to Brussels to attend the 28th Conference of General Practitioners and Family Physicians

The annual WONCA Europe conference is the meeting place for these experts. Here they share new knowledge and experiences from both outpatient and clinical practice. The conference is an important educational event for general practitioners, during which they can earn up to 15 European CME credits (EACCME) as part of their continuing education.

The 28th annual conference was held on 7-10 June 2023. After the covid years, it enjoyed a lot of interest from the participants.

2,040 experts from 75 countries of the world gathered in Brussels. This was the second time, after last year’s edition, of a conference that attracts a large number of doctors from outside Europe as well.

The conference was organized by GUARANT International for the sixth time. This year in cooperation with the local member WONCA Europe – the Belgian Society for General Practitioners and Family Physicians.

The professional program, prepared by the scientific committee, consisted of 6 plenary lectures, 12 parallel lessons and several practical workshops.

The conference offered a wide range of topics such as sustainable healthcare, mental health, the use of digital applications in medicine, sexual health and other interesting lectures.

During the conference, 9 invited speakers gave keynote lectures on current topics to the great interest of all participants.

The conference also included a poster section and an exhibition with more than 40 exhibitors and the WONCA village, where WONCA Europe’s expert networks and future conferences are regularly presented.

The conference also offered an interesting social program. As part of the opening ceremony, there was a musical performance by the Scala & Kolacny Brothers singing group. The first day of the conference ended with a welcome toast in the exhibition premises.

On Friday morning, the traditional WONCA run for health took place, in which over 100 runners took part.

On the penultimate evening, a conference dinner was held in the premises of the Comics Art Museum, the Belgian Comic Strip Center. Before dinner, the participants could see the exhibition of Belgian comic art for free, and a guitar duo performed at the end of the conference.

Thanks for the preparation of the professional program and the support of the conference go to WONCA Europe, the organizing and scientific committee, all partners and exhibitors, the local conference office Visit Brussels and all the speakers and participants of the conference.

Thanks also go to senior project manager Renata Somolová and her entire team. Everyone ensured the smooth running of the WONCA Europe conference and especially another successful year.

We are already looking forward to the 29th edition, which GUARANT International will organize in the fall of 2024 in Dublin, Ireland.
