In May, the prestigious European Laryngological Society (ELS) 2025 Congress took place in Warsaw, focusing on diseases of the larynx, vocal cords, and related structures. The event brought together leading experts in laryngology, phoniatrics, and basic research, who discussed the latest advances in the treatment of airway diseases and laryngeal cancer, phonosurgery, and neurolaryngology.
This significant professional congress attracted more than 600 specialists from 60 countries worldwide. It also featured a company exhibition where 26 exhibitors presented state-of-the-art technologies, equipment, and innovations that are pushing the boundaries of current practice.
Scientific Program
The scientific program was designed with an emphasis on diversity and quality. It offered a varied mix of keynote lectures, expert symposia, panel discussions, instructional courses, free papers, and e-posters. Topics covered a broad spectrum of the field – from voice, swallowing, and airways to oncology, neurolaryngology, and the use of artificial intelligence in clinical practice.
Among the main speakers were leading experts such as Dr. Dinesh Chhetri (UCLA), Youri Maryn PhD. (Ghent University), Dr. Paula Aragon (Madrid), Dr. Gauthier Desuter (Antwerp), and Prof. Cesare Piazza (Brescia).
The keynote guest of the congress was Dr. Snehal G. Patel from the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, one of the world’s foremost specialists in head and neck tumor surgery. In his lecture, Dr. Snehal G. Patel focused on the introduction to the TNM system and the possibilities for its further development in the field of laryngeal tumors.
The day before the official opening, three pre-congress workshops were held, focusing on transoral microsurgery, laryngeal injections, and the use of blue laser in laryngeal microsurgery. These provided participants with hands-on training with direct involvement from international experts.
Networking and Recognition of Excellence
On the evening of May 8, an official welcome reception took place in the lobby of the Hilton Warsaw City Hotel, offering an informal setting for registered participants and exhibitors to connect directly at the congress venue.
The social program culminated in a festive buffet dinner at the historic Forteca Kręgliccy, offering a unique backdrop and atmosphere of old Warsaw.
A traditional part of the official opening of the ELS 2025 congress was also the awarding of the prestigious Oskar Kleinsasser – Storz Prize, which is granted every two years by the president of ELS during the congress. This notable award is given to a recognized European laryngologist – ideally a member of ELS – for an outstanding lifetime contribution to the field.
Benefits and Outlook for the Future
The congress provided participants with a unique opportunity to gain new skills, share their own experiences, and emphasized the direction in which laryngology will develop in the future. We look forward to the next edition, which will bring new challenges, collaborations, and opportunities to improve care in this fiel
