INTRODUCTION
In the second half of April, the Scottish capital became a global hub for immunogenetics. The 39th European Immunogenetics and Histocompatibility Conference (EFI 2026) was held in the modern facilities of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC). Under the theme “From Genes to Grafts: Where Innovation Meets Medicine,” the conference attracted leading experts from around the world. The combination of cutting-edge science, intensive education, and unique Scottish hospitality confirmed that EFI is among the most significant events in the medical conference calendar.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM AND INTENSIVE HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS
The scientific program featured five extensive plenary sessions covering key topics in the field – from hematopoietic cell transplantation to cell therapies and regenerative medicine, as well as the impact of HLA on various diseases. A joint session with the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) focusing on improving transplant accessibility drew significant attention. Participants also had access to practically oriented teaching sessions and presentations of top abstracts. The program included several partner symposia and prestigious awards were presented. The scientific portion concluded on Friday with a keynote lecture by Professor John Trowsdale on comprehensive immune defense.

SOCIAL PROGRAM AND UNFORGETTABLE NETWORKING
Organizers ensured that the top-tier scientific program was complemented by memorable social experiences. The conference kicked off on Tuesday with a formal opening and traditional Scottish welcome, followed by a Welcome Drink in the exhibition area at EICC. The relaxed atmosphere without musical entertainment provided the perfect setting for reconnecting with colleagues and discussing initial insights from presentations. On Thursday morning, over one hundred enthusiasts participated in the traditional charity GenDx Tulip Run. The 4–5 km route started at Meadows Park, and the proceeds, doubled by GenDx, were donated to support the charity Calum’s Cabin. The highlight of the social program was the Thursday Networking Event, held in the stunning historic spaces of the National Museum of Scotland. The elegant museum setting provided a truly unique backdrop for establishing new international collaborations.

CONCLUSION
EFI 2026 in Edinburgh clearly demonstrated the dynamic advancement of the field of immunogenetics. The event’s success was based not only on its exceptionally high-quality scientific content but also on flawless organization, allowing delegates to fully focus on science and networking.
